Liberty Seated Dimes – Die Varieties, 1837 - 1891

Foreword by Chris Pilliod

Introduction by Gerry Fortin

Welcome to the definitive resource for Liberty Seated Dime variety collectors.

After collecting and researching the Seated Dime series for over twenty years, I'm happy to present the 3rd reference book to the numismatic community. Through prior hardbound books, both Kam Ahwash and Brian Greer advanced the knowledge and collector base for Liberty Seated Dimes. I've decided to take a different approach with the 3rd book given the advancements in computer and internet technology. Within this web-book, you will find a wealth of new information about Seated Dime die varieties and die states in a format that organizes the previous die varieties defined by Ahwash and Greer. There is an update to historical Coin World pricing trends, and great Seated Dime photography. Members will enjoy access to a vast Liberty Seated Dime die variety collection formed with contributions from many collectors of the series.

So go ahead, please click on the Free Preview to examine the attribution tools and a sampling of the Seated Dime content. Have fun, become a member and enjoy this Seated Dime ride… Gerry Fortin

What's New?

The long search for an 1873 WA Double Die Obverse example consistent with my collecting objectives is over. This week, I purchased an original example with mint state details from Sean Reynolds. Sean's dime has a small reverse mark below the D in DIME which probably saved it from being dipped and submitted to the TPG for potential mint state grade. Regardless of the reverse mark, this example is a fitting inclusion into the variety reference set. Please check the Top 100 Varieties link and 1873 WA F-103 listing to enjoy this original dime and most desireable variety.

The E-Gobrecht January 2009 issue was issued promptly on January 1 and is online at the LSCC link. Great job, Bill!

The 1874 No Arrows F-106 dime announced here and in Coin World is currently on hold for potential buyer.
